Client

Biomakers specializes in genetic and molecular studies for cancer and other complex diseases, operating mostly in Latin America. They provide physicians and patients with comprehensive molecular diagnostic services and advice.

This was a really smooth project. While having started it with another vendor, the transition to Manas team was a real quick win for us.

Requirements & Context

Biomakers Pluton is a web and mobile platform that simplifies how physicians request medical testing for their patients.

Manas received this project from a previous provider who could no longer continue with the development, on July 28th 2020. There were several functionalities already in place, while others were on the roadmap but still not built.

Approach

We began by correcting some visualization issues, for both the desktop and the mobile versions of the platform. This improved the user experience and allowed for the Biomakers team to start getting familiar with the product.

After that, we worked on some features to enable multiple clients to use the platform:

  1. Creation and registration of new clients
  2. Administration and resetting of client passwords
  3. Client removal by a Biomakers administrator
  4. Cancer marker CRUD

Results

We received the project with an outdated technology stack (PHP/Vue 2) and an architecture that wasn’t optimized. We migrated the backend to Python and FastAPI, and conducted an intensive survey of the core features that the Biomakers team needed more pressingly, which we implemented as part of the migration to the new architecture.

We also added unit testing and automated e2e testing, and built a migration system so that future changes to the database could be done more efficiently.

On August 3rd, we deployed our first version of the product to staging, and on October 21st we had the first deployment into production, which went smoothly.
