Client
Aeromapa is an argentine company, created in 1979, that specializes in photogrammetric, mapping, cadastre and topography. Among other services, they offer photogrammetric flights, digital photogrammetric restitution and satellite imaging.
Aeromapa is the only company within the argentine private sector that owns all of its equipment, which allows them to have absolute control over the services they provide, without depending on subcontractors.
Requirements & Context
As part of their photogrammetric flight services, the company needed a solution for a digital photogrammetric plotter.
The requirements behind this were quite complex. The tool had to allow them to do:
- 3D data capturing and editing,
- Fast TIN (Triangulated Irregular Network) and contour generation
- DXF import and export
- Automatic orientation
- Aerotriangulation point transfer and adjustment
- Automatic DTM extraction and contour generation by image correlation
- Orthophoto production
- Close range photogrammetry and
- Support for various commercial picture formats
Approach
KuVista features a very rich yet neat user interface. It uses a common mouse (with the wheel used for Z movements) as a stereo pointing device. Compilation is accomplished using the computer’s mouse and keyboard and a single monitor on which the 3D model and vectors are displayed.
The user can open a window that displays the vector data in 2D, thus making a second monitor unnecessary.
The tool was developed in C# Microsoft .Net. We used C++.Net for performance optimizations, and DirectX provides the 3D graphics engine.
Results
The image handling is so fluid that it matches the movement and feel of an analytical system. Image loading, buffering, and image management in memory has been taken very seriously to provide a fast and stable tool.
